A NEW fast ferry boat transport system that will link Lupon, Davao Oriental and Davao City will soon to resume.

The CEO of the Cavite Superferry Transport, Inc. paid a courtesy call on Mayor Erlinda D. Lim this morning, said will deploy its ferry boats to ply Lupon-Davao after visiting the Port of Lupon.

The ferry service which can accommodate up to 100 passengers is expected to shorten travel time from Davao City to 1 hour from the current land travel of 4 hours.

The resumption of the ferry boat service here is expected to be patronized again by the residents of Davao Oriental, since the trip will directly bring the commuters all the way to the City Center, the China Town in Metro Davao.

Lupon is one of the fastest growing economies in the Province of Davao Oriental, located 132 kilometers east of the City of Davao and 34 kilometers away from Mati City the Provincial Capital.

In February 2010, the Local Government Unit of Lupon was able to invite fastcraft operator with the granting of 3 years tax exemption. However the operation lasted only for 5 months due to difficulty in berthing during the onset of the southwest monsoon at that time when Lupon Port was not yet serviceable.

Today, things would be different after the Philippine Ports Authority has completed significant portion of the Port of Lupon that can accommodate the berthing of fastcraft and other flat-bottomed boats. To lessen the vulnerability of sea craft berthing at the Lupon Port, break water is now being constructed.
