Barangay Bagumbayan in this town was declared the first drug-cleared barangay in Lupon, Davao Oriental. The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) Region-XI declared Barangay Bagumbayan as the first barangay in Lupon obtaining the drug-cleared status after careful and thorough validation by different government agencies and the Oversight Committee on Barangay Drug Clearing.
A short confirmation ceremony was held today at the New Barangay Hall led by the Municipal Mayor ERLINDA D. LIM, PSSUPT HARRY ESPELA – Provincial Director, Davao Oriental Provincial Police Office, MR. NARCISO J. SAMAR – Chairperson of the Municipal Anti-Drug Abuse Council (MADAC), and Punong Barangay GENEROSO RAÑESES, JR.
Witnessing the ceremonial signing were Provincial Anti-Drug Abuse Council ART BENJIE BULAONG, JERIMI L. MANHILA – DOH Representative, JULIA A. MASONGSONG – MLGOO, DRA. BELEN P. LARROBIS – Municipal Health Officer, and CIRILA B. COBERO – MSWD Officer.
Mayor Erlinda D. Lim congratulated the barangay for being the first to be declared drug-cleared in our municipality. The mayor said she has directed the local police to continue with their anti-drug surveillance and operations, especially against the drug personalities who had surfaced.
The Municipal Local Government Operation Officer for her part said that the challenge now, for the barangay, the municipal and the police is to maintain these barangay as drug-clear.
A drug-cleared barangay as defined by Dangerous Drugs Board (DDB) Regulation No. 3 Series of 2017, otherwise known as “Strengthening the Implementation of the Barangay Drug Clearing Program”, is a barangay that was previously drug-affected and subjected to drug-clearing operations, and declared drug-free under the parameters established by the DDB.
