Villagers of Barangay Panikian to Sitio Camaruyan-Logdeck in Barangay Maragatas were made recipients of the 19-km Road Concreting Project of the Payapa at Masaganang Pamayanan (PAMANA) which recently conducted for the said villages of Banaybanay and Lupon towns in Davao Oriental.
The place was once a mass base of New People’s Army for a number of years and became a battleground as these NPA outlaws refuse to drop their control of the community. In order to address the difficulties of the community, the Farm to Market Road which is a long overdue demand of the community is now being implemented by the Department of the Interior and Local Government.
Residents have been very supportive of the development as it was something that they have been dreaming of for a long time. A Sitio Leader of the community once said in an interview by the 28IB (Philippine Army) “Nalipay gani mi sa pagkabalo sa among kalsada ug maningkamot mi nga makatabang para mas mapadali ang paghuman ani nga project” (We are even happy that they are working on our road and we will try our best to provide assistance in order to hasten the completion of this project).
The residents has expresses their true feelings about the government project that was undertaken for them and they are very grateful despite their unfortunate past.
With the farm to market road, their produce (corn, copra, charcoal, etc.) which they trade either in Banaybanay or in Lupon, their costs are likely to minimize as bigger vehicles will be able to go to the area.
PAMANA is the national government convergence program that expects development interventions to isolated hard to reach and conflict-affected communities, ensuring that they are not left behind.
