The Municipal Government of Lupon through the Office of the Municipal Mayor together with the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office and the Provincial Government of Davao Oriental spearhead this year’s Women’s Month Celebration with the theme, “WE Make Change Work for Women” on March 10, 2017 to recognize and highlight women’s key roles in the municipality.
Pursuant to Presidential Proclamation No.224, 227 and Republic Act No. 6469 declaring first week of March as Women’s Week, March 8 as National Women’s Day.
Mayor Erlinda D. Lim spearheaded the Women’s Month celebration in a gathering attended by 4,000 members of the Municipal Local Women’s Council of Lupon, the biggest women’s organization in the Municipality of Lupon, Davao Oriental. She emphasized that women’s empowerment is one of the priorities of her administration. The officers of MLWCL were lauded by Mayor Erlinda D. Lim for their efforts in organizing women especially those who belong to the marginalized sector.
The Culmination program started with the Holy Mass at 8:00 AM and was joined by members of the Municipal Local Women’s Council of Lupon, Barangay Officials and functionaries, partner organizations and agencies. Followed by a Zumba Dance Contest participated by the 21 Barangays represented each women’s council.
Dra. Bernardita S. Salazar, President of MLWCL in her message she emphasized that men and women are equal and that women have equal roles in leadership and decision-making.
Meanwhile, Governor Nelson L. Dayanghirang in his message he thanked all the participants and emphasized that March is the month for women.
In this regard, the governor said the provincial government will carry on upholding the rights, welfare and protection of women through legislation, programs and projects or initiatives that promote women participation.
Part of this year’s celebration is the COMELEC Satellite Registration for Women and Girls in Lupon at the People’s Park on March 8, 2017 headed by Election Officer Aliacbar Sangcopan.
Consistent with Proclamation No. 227 s. 1988, the annual conduct of the National Women’s Month Celebration (NWMC) aims to give due recognition to the contributions of Filipino women in our society. (photos: Bobcat)
