The major portion of the local economy is reliant on the primary produce of its surrounds: fishing and aquaculture, rice, corn, coconut and banana. The associated infrastructure and value-added trading operations also makes a substantial contribution.

Emerging industries include tourism, light industrial engineering, internet and education. The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) offer an excellent research and development base; Lupon is technologically advanced by Technical Educations, with a stable and educated labour force.

The Lupon Port and radial road links make Lupon the main distribution centre for the Gulf Town and in the Province.
