The award was received by the members of the Municipal Tobacco Control Network (Anti-Smoking Taskforce) Headed by Dr. Belen P. Larrobis, last Friday in SMX Convention Center, Lanang, Davao City.
Dr. Larrobis said LGU-Lupon garnered a score of 98.2 percent based on DOH’s set criteria for implementing a 100 percent Tobacco-Free Environment.
Municipal Mayor Domingo A. Lim said his administration is honored and proud to receive the award, being the highest award to be bestowed upon a local government unit in the campaign against smoking in public places.
Mayor Lim attributed the accomplishment to the strong and active participation of the community, the Municipal Police Officers who are deputized as enforcers, including the business and private sector for their help in the information dissemination regarding the ill-effects of smoking.
Mayor Lim thanked the Municipal Tobacco Control Network for this accomplishment.
The local government received a trophy, certificate, and a cash prize.
The Red Orchid Award is the highest distinction given by the DOH on anti-smoking advocacy of local government units, government hospitals and offices, and DOH centers nationwide.
