The Department of Energy is set to conduct a study on the geothermal energy potential in three communities in Davao Oriental.
The Mati-Lupon-Tarragona geothermal fields are DOE’s study projects to be started early next year. This surface studies will carried-out by DOE with hired technicians and consultants in 30 days per area.
The DOE has conducted an IEC (Information, Education and Communication) campaign for the community stakeholders that included representatives from City of Mati, Lupon, Tarragona and the Provincial Government of Davao Oriental last September 25, 2018 at Honey’s Hotel.
DOE Assistant Director Marissa Cerezo assured that such study, which is a fully government initiated project, will not harm the environment or encroach on indigenous people’s culture or practices. She appealed for the collective support of local government units and local communities for such endeavor.
During the forum, DOE provided presentations on the basics of geothermal energy, and the program was hosted by Ms. Jeanivive Abangan of the Philippine Information Agency.
