The Commission on Filipinos Overseas (CFO) has conducted information activities in Lupon, Davao Oriental on various issues affecting the welfare of Filipinos abroad, today (October 1).

It also aims to raise public awareness concerning migration, intermarriage and existing government policies and programs directed against illegal recruitment, documentation fraud, and human trafficking, among others.

According to Paul Vincent Avencilla of the Commission on Filipinos Overseas, the inter-agency community education and information campaign program of the agency seeks to assist prospective migrants in making informed decisions regarding settlement abroad, as well as generate community involvement in migration concern.

The CFO also introduced and promoted the BaLinkBayan (www.balinkbayan.gov.ph) the Overseas Filipinos’ One Stop Online Portal for Diaspora Engagement in 2013. The portal is designed to promote and support the channeling of remittances to more development-oriented activities. It encourages overseas Filipinos towards investments, entrepreneurship, needs-based donation, volunteerism in their homeland.

Participants are from the academe, ofw family circle, owwa office, public employment services office, local civil registry office, other concerned local offices and guests.
